Fierce Anthems

While we have been quarantined, I was cleaning my basement. There was a bunch of junk down there. Plus, C and I got married in February, went on our honeymoon, and then were quarantined together two weeks later. Our basement has been in constant use for the last six months. There were piles of stuff everywhere. I’m not exaggerating. Not even a little.

We have doubles of stuff that we’re setting aside for my son who is now 18, we have all the wedding decorations, gifts, and residual items. We have the trinkets from our honeymoon. We have his clothes, my clothes, his daughter’s extra items, and my son’s extra items. ALL shoved down there.

We turned a corner into a craft space and the opposite corner into a family entertainment space. We still have several projects left to make it better but we’re on our way.

Anyway … while I was cleaning one day, I decided to shake things up with my tunes. I turned on YouTube music and began just hunting through for something good. I love, Love, LOVE girl anthems. I love them because they’re upbeat, funky, energizing, and encouraging.

I like to sing and dance along to the music while I clean. I like to sing loud. I like to dance terribly. No judgment. I know I’m not alone.

I came across this song by Carrie Underwood and pressed play. I fell in love. Then I scrolled down and saw that there were several new-to-me songs that seemed fantastic. So, I listened and decided to share the list with you. Because really, who doesn’t need a fantastic Fierce Anthem play list?

Without further ado, here’s my list:

  • Champion, Carrie Underwood
  • Fight Song, Rachel Patton
  • Fireworks, Katy Perry
  • Brave, Sara Bareilles
  • This is Me, Keala Settle
  • You Say, Lauren Daigle
  • Fighting For Me, Riley Clemmons
  • The Breakup Song, Francesca Battistelli
  • Made for This, Carrollton
  • Roar, Katy Perry
  • Survivor, Destiny’s Child
  • Broken Prayers, Riley Clemmons
  • Raise a Hallelujah, Bethel Music
  • Gonna Get Over You, Sara Barielles
  • Rise Up, Andra Day
  • Rescue, Lauren Daigle
  • Burn the Ships, For King & Country

Here’s a picture of what the basement looked like before. It doesn’t look like this anymore. My list of Fierce Anthems helped me get to the other side of all those piles.

Maybe you can tackle your piles in your basement. Maybe you need to clean out your closet. Maybe you need to do the laundry or mow the lawn. Whatever it is, let this list help you motivate to the other side of it.

Let me be a little real here too – I have been a little up and down lately. Let’s face it, we all have been. We’ve had so much upside down and inside out going on with 2020 that I think many people would just like to skip to next year already. So, if you need a little pick me up add these to your play list where you listen to music. Close the windows and doors, belt it out, and dance around. Who cares, do it on the front lawn if you want! Music helps when I feel like the stuff from the bottom of a shoe scraped off and discarded. This list helps me feel empowered and strong and visible.

Hope you enjoy!

Give me a comment to add a song or two to the play list. Also, if you like this post read some of the others and enter your email above. TTYL. 🙂
