What is inside Fierce? Fierce is written in 2 parts. The first part addresses all our issues. When we’re lost and alone, we’re in a pit that we can’t get out of on our own and I talk about this. Amazingly there are several characters in the Bible who need to be rescued as we do. There is a chapter about that sneaky suspicion most (maybe all) women carry around that says we’re not good enough. There are chapters about hope, faith, bravery, forgiveness, grace, suffering, and fear.

The second part is all about love and relationships. The love God has for us. The love we have for our people. How we do better in love, how we get tangled up in love.

The premise is this – we handle all our stuff and then we get in love. When we can live into God’s love for us, we’re ready to be in love with someone else and still stay safe. That’s the important part.

What’s the deal with ‘one step at a time’? One step at a time is two things, 1) it’s about walking through the 12 steps just like the anonymous (I wrote a post about that here) 2) it’s also about getting out of the pit, getting okay, learning to forgive and live in grace, before getting into love again.

Most of us don’t start out a relationship with the hope that the fellow we’re dating will beat us and make us afraid for our lives. But, we end up there for a million and one reasons. That we will permit someone to beat us and forgive him and stay in a relationship with him, is a symptom of a problem.

That symptom points to feelings of being unworthy, unloved, unwanted, and invisible. The symptom points to something being broken on the inside the same way that a runny nose and a fever will point to the flu. When we stay, forgive, permit – it’s a symptom of something broken on the inside.

These are the things that point to the matter- the problem is usually an untrue belief. The belief comes in the form of I’m unloved, unwanted, unvalued, invisible, a burden, not good enough, or so many other things. Each one of us who permits abuse holds these things inside of us and only we can get to the heart of the matter.

Fierce addresses some of these things. I try to reveal how God’s love can help us overcome them. When you are feeling unloved, God loves you. When you are feeling unworthy, God says you matter and keeps watch over you. When you feel invisible, God sees you.

Then, after we take care of business, handle our matters. Only then can we be better in relationships, only then can we do better in life. We won’t take less than we deserve when we realize our worth.

Now on to the Freebies!!!

Again, for today, the same as the other days this week, I have created 2 free downloadable verse prints for you. They are available in either PDF format or PNG format. Today’s verse is…

“The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Psalm 121:7-8 NLT.

Do you feel alone or invisible? Do you wonder if you’re seen in the middle of all the people and the things on this earth? The Psalmist begins wondering where (and then deciding) that his help comes from God. It ends with the assurances that God keeps watch over his people, “now and forever.”

Where else would help and protection come from? Whom can we rely on in a tough spot? Who else is unfailing? God, only God. People and things fall away. People are unreliable and sometimes care more about their self-interest.

I have spent many years feeling alone and invisible. Verses like this help me feel seen and known. Things don’t always come around the way I think they should and sometimes life is hard. Sometimes I make mistakes and things fall apart. Verses like this give me comfort.

Yes, I sit around and sulk like everyone else. I question how God could let hard things happen. I wonder about the suffering in the world. I haven’t received answers to the hard questions I ask, that everyone asks.

What I do know is that there is evil in the world and that God is good. I have been lifted up out of the muck enough times to trust God. I have been redeemed enough to trust God. I have built a relationship with God so that I can still trust him. Verses like this help me get through the hard times.

I don’t feel invisible anymore. I don’t feel alone and discarded anymore. I feel chose and loved and kept because of my relationship with the God of the universe. Because of that relationship, I choose to trust more often than not.

I hope you find the same comfort that I found in this verse. I hope you buy the book and read my story and find God was with you in the midst of your suffering. I hope that as you push forward you find what you need in the world.
